Letโ€™s Talk Anime!: Fruits Basket

This has been the first anime in a long time that I couldnโ€™t wait to write about. Of course thereโ€™s other but this one. THIS ONE. Left me with no choice but to write a review on it. Valentineโ€™s Day is close by and with the upcoming release of the prelude to this anime. I thought why not.

Let me start by saying I didnโ€™t watch the original. This is for the newer fruits basket. If the older one is worth it. Iโ€™ll watch it and enjoy that one too.

Fruits Basket is one of those animes that if you have no knowledge or background on what it is. The little summary will confuse you. Youโ€™ll read it and probably ask yourself. How can a show about people who turn into zodiac animas but theyโ€™re human and this female character be interesting? It has an almost perfect 5 star on Crunchyroll. The character looked pretty. I was like okay Iโ€™m going to either cringe or like this. Well, I loved it.

Tohru is someone you must protect at all costs. I understand it. The characters understand that. Itโ€™s a given. Most of the time you just want to hug her and make everything better or want to face palm yourself because she always cares about everyone except herself. The show is very slice of life, romance, psychological type genre. You meet the Zodiacs one by one who are all from the Sohma family line. Tohru automatically befriends them all. Sheโ€™s the light and warmth that brings everyone together. Meanwhile, the curse and bond that holds the zodiacs together has subjected them to abuse from their God and/or their family. Some you see more than others. Especially Kyo, Yuki, Shigure, Haru and Momiji. The others you see here and there. But I believe Ritsu is a definite minor character you hardly see throughout the series. Overall, the characters and their development are wonderful. Tohruโ€™s mother although she passed away before the series begins; is a major character throughout the show. Itโ€™s hard to not love her and cry at times for not even meeting her while she was still alive (hence the prelude coming). A lot of tears were shed for each character. Thereโ€™s times where youโ€™re frustrated, sad and overjoyed. But you start to get the flow of everyoneโ€™s emotions and then youโ€™re on this roller coaster of emotions the whole time.

Spoilers Start Here. Donโ€™t read if you plan one watching! Skip until Spoiler Ends

I wonโ€™t lie. At first I was so feeling the Yuki and Tohru ship. I found kyo frustrating in the beginning and Yuki was just someone you want to hug. Kyo had this wall that was difficult to read. Eventually you see why this isnโ€™t a thing. How Yuki sees Tohru as a mom instead of a spouse. Thatโ€™s fine. I actually like how they gradually built up their relationship and how they eased off the whole romance thing to focus on her and Kyo.

My favorite couple overall has to be Haru and Isuzu. The emotions and the way Haru reacts every time he sees her or when she sees him. Itโ€™s sweet and bitter due to the emotional abuse sheโ€™s endured. Her dedication in trying to break the curse to free them and love openly since Akito (God) would hurt her for loving him and being happy together. The way Haru tries to protect and be there for her while also loving her so passionately kills me since he canโ€™t do much when she hides the abuse she endures with Akito. Isuzu although coming off as mean or distant at first is emotionally damaged from her past and when she cries into Tohruโ€™s arms I couldnโ€™t help but cry with her. Not knowing a parentโ€™s unconditional love and feeling like a burden to those around her to decide to be kind is a lot to carry.

Spoilers End Here!

Honestly, this is only a snippet of so much in this anime. Itโ€™s 3 seasons. First two seasons have 24-25 episodes each. Then the 3rd has 13 episodes? Thereโ€™s so many characters to love, like, hate, dislike that itโ€™s hard to put it into one blog. If you like Romance, Slice of life, with some psychological trauma/drama involved. Check it out. And if youโ€™ve watched fruits basket. Comment below on who your favorite character is and why.

Monday Weekly Tarot Pull: Anime NYC and Q&A

Two of Wands

Two of Wands: Preparation, Movement, Structure

Interesting that I drew this card considering where my life is at the moment. This card signifies organization that I need and asks that I create an outline to takes steps for my next moves. This can apply anywhere. It asks I draw energy from my passion and apply it to my real world life this week. Thatโ€™s exactly what I will do!

Life right now is neutral. There are days where Iโ€™m overwhelmed then I do my best to catch up. Whether it be personal or professionally. I am a little behind in my studies but Iโ€™m planning to get back on track with study groups and focusing on the tasks on hand. Wish me luck!

Anime NYC was definitely a lot of fun. I always recommend going to conventions with friends or meet new people as you go. The atmosphere is full of people with similar interests and excitement which is what I love about going to conventions. Seeing everyone dressed up and having fun. Being able to purchase merch and things you donโ€™t normally see is both amazing and expensive! Haha. Clearly there needs to be some self control at play when going to these things. Overall loved it and hope to be back next year. Iโ€™m considering posting some pics on my IG. Since I hardly post on there.

Q: Why Tarot cards/Readings?

A: To be honest, because I was drawn to the idea at first. Now Iโ€™m realizing perhaps thereโ€™s more to it than just that. Tarot has brought me a sense of peace that keeps me grounded. By following my intuition and readings I get a real sense of myself. It gives me the self awareness I need to get through a lot of things in life that seem foggy. Itโ€™s led me to discover more about myself I didnโ€™t know could be and thus my journey to self love has unfolded in many ways. Stay tuned for more.

Anime NYC Weekend

Been excited for this to start again! Hubby and I are heading to Anime NYC for all three days. Will keep everyone updated and take pics of whatever merch we get. But, no worries. I am still working on my Dream Story. Itโ€™s a Rated M one so Iโ€™m trying to see what soundsโ€ฆenticing to say the least. Itโ€™s out of my comfort zone so please be patient everyone!

What conventions has anyone been to? We have been to comic con twice and this will be our second AnimeNYC convention. Comment below and let me know. Stay safe with tonightโ€™s full moon! Will be doing a full moon reading and posting that tomorrow as well. Happy weekend sweeties!

Life Update with Anime/Manga Watch List: November 2021

Itโ€™s been difficult to find time for anything really. I donโ€™t play video games the way I used to. I miss it but until the baby has a more set bed time. I donโ€™t myself playing anytime soon. Along with school assignments and part time job. Itโ€™s overwhelming to say the least.

What I have found some time to do in between breastfeeding and doing chores once the kids are in bed is watch different things. I only recent got back into reading again. But Iโ€™ll still have some suggestions on here.

Tokyo Revengers

Currently my top three must watch. Fruits Basket has me close to tears in almost every episode with its wholesomeness. Once Iโ€™m done with the last season. I might just rewatch for the feels.

I didnโ€™t realize how much Iโ€™m actually reading at this point since Iโ€™m waiting for next chapters to release. But hereโ€™s my list!

Muted (WEBTOON)
Freaking Romance (WEBTOON)
Omniscient Reader (WEBTOON)
Noblesse (WEBTOON)

Phew! Lots of suggestions in here. But these are my highly recommended choices. Thereโ€™s a good mix in here for all kinds of readers. Enjoy!

Life has been crazy. But, these little things that I can find time for. Staying up on a reading or episode binge is always something I live for. Stay sweet everyone!

Weekly Reading: Feeling Grateful

Itโ€™s a new week and was feeling a bit tired this morning. Staying up late with assignments do and work can be a bit rough. But I canโ€™t pass up a reading for the week.

To start of the week I drew the card: The World

Yes, everyone. It was me, Dio.

The reference was irresistible. The World signifies completion or wholeness. Whether it be career, love, financial. A sense of unity within yourself. Start of new cycle and enjoying the present.

What a week to draw this. Considering how Iโ€™m feeling. Itโ€™s the last week of college classes before starting the new term next week. I have this sense of completion since I didnโ€™t think I would finish. I am feeling good about this week and have some tasks to complete in order to feel balanced again. I hope this cycle continues for me. Iโ€™m grateful for the cards showing me many things. The World gives me peace to know that I can finally enjoy myself right now.

Iโ€™ve also gotten into reading some mangas and webtoons lately. The amount of binging Iโ€™m doing is insane since I havenโ€™t read much manga in a while. Some titles Iโ€™ve gone through are Solo Leveling, Muted, Flow, Positively Yours and started Tokyo Revengers (where the anime left off). Thereโ€™s so many on my list to read and catch up on. I only hope to have the time. I wish there was more time in the day while needing less sleep. I could probably get more done that way.

Thank you for joining me this week on my weekly tarot reading! Weekly Iโ€™ll draw one card for either myself or someone in my life (maybe even content readers!) to talk about anonymously or explain the card with vague context and quotes from said person. Much love and stay sweet everyone!
